The first ascent of the route “Ekdimia” (IV M4 45° (70°), 280m) was realized on 5/3/2006 by S. Stamatiou - M. Styllas.
This route is the completion of the attempt of Z. Trompakas - G. Kirkitzotis, who, on 2/5/1993, descended into a snow couloir by abseiling from the opening of Skala down to Kazania, stopped on a vertical wall and then climbed up again the couloir by leaving four bolts on the wall. This climb is characterized by angles of 50° - 70°, a rock passage (III) and 240m length.
The complete route starts at the base of Mytikas with a rock pitch of 40m (the above-mentioned vertical wall of the first attempt), which is also the most difficult part of the route. The beginning involves balance moves, with the sole aid of a few mossy parts, which however do not offer any actual safety, but it continues with a very nice lay-back technique (dulfer), with relatively good protection on small nuts, while at the end of the pitch there is good and really hard snow or ice up to 70°. From that point up follows the snow couloir (45° - 50°). During the complete attempt, no bolt of those which had been initially placed was found, maybe because the couloir was more covered by snow than it was during the first attempt. The rock passage (III) was found about one pitch before the exit.
About two pitches before the end of the route and to the right, starts a narrow couloir - chimney which seems to be offering some very interesting climbing on mixed field and it would be worth making an effort to develop it.
The necessary equipment in order to repeat the route comprises 2 - 3 pitons for the narrow and shallow cracks, 1 piton for deeper fissures, a set of nuts and optionally 2 - 3 small friends.
Returning to the refuges of the plateau involves ascending on the top of Mytikas and then descending down from the classic couloir.
